Valentine tugged the cap he wore a little lower, fingers going back to the neck of his beer as he watched Charlotte pull out her phone. The girl’s face illuminated by the screen, he could make out the faintest expression on her face as she read through the short message. He’d half expected a scowl, a bratty roll of her eyes promptly followed by her shoving the phone away, so when Charlotte’s fingers danced over the screen he chuckled to himself.
Her companion, however, didn’t seem all too pleased at the loss of her attention. On his table, Val’s phone buzzed and he didn’t rush to text back, eyes darting back to check if Damian was still at the bar. The last thing he needed was to have his friend questioning his constant attention to his phone. Last thing he really needed was to actually reply to the girl’s text. The few beers he’d had didn’t help much.
[sms 22:40] I think what I know proves the opposite actually. You could be. Or you could be in a bar somewhere being far from a little good girl.
[sms 22:41] I’m thinking a sports bar. Ignoring some adolescent looking boy to check your phone.
Shaking his head Valentine tucked his phone away again, finishing the last of his beer.
Her phone went silent and while it seemed a rather random message she assumed that was it and picked up her drink again. After a few minutes Lucas sidled over to her again and began to talk. With a fixed smile she nodded a few times and was beginning to wonder whether he was worth putting much effort into.
Her phone vibrated and she pulled it out to look. Pursing her lips as she saw who it was again she threw a sweet smile to Lucas and held her glass up. She opened the message, shaking her head at the first one but the second made her mouth drop and she immediately looked around. Lucas was still standing there and Lottie leaned over to whisper loudly in his ear and send him scuttling off to the bar. Once he had gone Lottie began to text.
[sms 22:46] Are you following me?
[sms 22.47] And said boy is a sweetheart who will give me whatever I want.
Biting her lip as she finished pressing send she looked around again though in a fairly busy and dark bar it was hard to spot anyone.
